Recession Proof Business

Recession Proof BusinessAre you looking for a recession proof business? Tons of people everyday are going online for answers. They are searching Google, Yahoo, Bing, YouTube, Facebook and even more online sources for information of how to make it in this economy. I am not an economist. Actually, I am far from it.

I graduated from college in 2001 and I spent the next five years searching for a job. I applied everywhere. I even moved to two other states to apply for jobs in new areas. I landed some odd jobs here and there but nothing significant. I started becoming really negative about my chances of finding something that could support a living. I couldn’t believe the competition. It was everywhere and I was getting my butt kick. I started reading books about starting my own business or at least employing myself. I can’t remember the name of the book but I will never forget the picture it painted in my head and how important it was to getting me headed in the right direction.

The story in the book was about the depression and how bad it really was for the working class. It talked about the lines for employment that would rap around buildings. It then went on about how poor everyone really was. It seemed horrendous! It then talked about what got use through the depression which was the entrepuerial spirit of a few brilliant men. These men were those who refused to stand in the endless employment lines, those who refused to buy into the negative situation, those who knew life could get better even during the depression era. What these men did is what echos in my head today when I plug away at my own businesses. These men would not stand in the lines, they took a different look at the situation. They knew that if these companies were still in business then they were making money and this meant that they had problems to solve. These men would spend their time learning about these problems and then thinking out of the box to solve these problems because these solution were worth more to these companies than their resumes and experience. It was now easy for them to walk into the back door where no one was standing because they where not asking to be hired but to show the company how they could save them money. These men found this strategy to be more effective in employing themselves than standing in line like the majority of the population asking for a job.

I am telling this story because this is how you will create a recession proof business or create a recession proof job for yourself. You must learn to find the back door instead of follow everyone else to the front. Before we go into where to get started let me define the difference between a business and a job. A business is something that makes money and functions when you are not working on it. A job is something that requires your attention for it to continue to make money. Those who become financially successful are those who know how to build businesses instead creating a job for themselves. If you are unemployed and in need of work then you must first start by creating that job and then learn how to convert it into a profitable business.
